2011 Spring Cleaning Anime Challenge

Hello again!

You should know that this blog will usually be like this. Do a post, wait a month or two, do another. It’s hard for me to be consistent on it!

I should say that I will be taking part in Anime Herald’s 2011 Spring Cleaning Anime Challenge. Basically, it means going through a lot of your backlog! And BOY, do I have a lot! Here’s my anime list’s On Hold section. Yes, some of those have no episodes watched, because I want those to be among some of the next watches.

So, first I choose, and write a review on it, then I poll you guys and you choose my next watch.

I think I’m going to mix it up a little, and finish two shows that are half done for that first show, and review both. Those two shows will be Ichigo Marshmallow (5/12 done) and Hidamari Sketch Hoshimittsu (also 5/12 done). So, expect reviews of those soon!

I’ll set up a poll after a little while, probably with shows that I’m only on episode 1 or 2 of. So, expect that soon! I’ll tweet it a bit, so it won’t be hard to find. In case you somehow got to this blog some way other than my Twitter feed, here’s a link.

Alrighty, I’ll start completing those two shows this weekend, because the challenge starts on Sunday. I’ll probably actually post that poll on Sunday as well.

“Pokemon” V1 Beta Java Project!

You didn’t think I was just going to talk about anime on here, huh?

I’m in an introductory Java course at college, and I’m getting bored from all the hotel invoices and such we have to do. So, in order to make myself more interested in Java, I started a personal project.

I’m recreating the battle screen from Pokemon! Maybe it doesn’t look exactly like it, but doing that is so hard. Alright?

So, I would like you guys to try it out and tell me what you think!

“Seeing Through Rose-Colored Glasses”, Decoded

I’ve done a few of these in the past, but I’ve never uploaded them onto a blog. I enjoy decoding popular sayings into what they really mean, according to logic and psychology and etc. There will be more of these in the future, I’ll tell you that.

Rose-Colored Glasses

Here's some rose-colored glasses on a dog. For comedy!

So, anyways. This one is “decoding” the popular saying, “seeing through rose-colored glasses”, which generally means seeing all the positives but completely forgetting (and/or denying) any faults. I took it as:

Rose-Colored Glasses

Roses are Red

You’re therefore seeing red

“Seeing red” means having anger, blind rage, etc.

Therefore, “seeing something through rose-colored glasses” really means you’re pissed off at what you’re seeing. This makes it more likely that you’ll instead pick out the negatives, and deny the positives. It’s all opposite, really.

So, that’s that. Comment with suggestions and alternate meanings, if you want.

Of Alchemy and Homunculi

[Contains "Of Mice and Men" spoilers.]

When I read Of Mice and Men roughly 3 years ago, I had an odd thought the entire time. In my head, I pictured the older brother as Ed, and the younger brother as Al. I’m amazed, looking back on it, they fit so well.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Ed always seemed to be the more mature one (for some reason), so he fit the role of the older brother well. Al seemed to me (at the time) to be a bit more shy, held back, and etc. He also likes fluffy animals.

So anyways, this way of thinking made the ending end up extremely odd. You know how the older brother has to shoot the younger brother for quite a few reasons. If you apply the Elric’s to those brothers, things get screwy. If you shot Al, all the bullet would do is maybe ricochet around on the inside and end up doing nothing. It kind of made the older brother’s actions seem pointless. Because nothing happened.

But through envisioning the brothers as the Elric brothers, I was able to connect with the characters more. What would have ended up being an O.K. read changed to a great one.

This post is a little detail and analysis lacking, but that was because this happened 3, 4 years ago. So, sorry about that.

Shoka: Worst Anime I’ve Ever Seen

Ugghhh. This. Is. Terrible.

This is the creature he's talking about. "Amazingly Drawn", huh?

I’m not going to waste my time with a review. Simple one: The story is instantly forgettable (I forgot it halfway in. That’s gotta be a new record.) and the art is just atrocious. Do yourself a favor, and stay away from this crap.

Worst anime I’ve ever seen, worst art I’ve ever seen. The CD-i cartoons look even better than this. By quite a bit.

IS BETTER THAN

And CD-i is a way better waste of your time.

And, by the way, they messed up drawing breasts.

I mean, CMON. You could do better than this, right??
